The Tepecik team works with a state-regulated brothel in Izmir, in which a health clinic has been built. These people need to the screened in order to prevent the transmission of Hepatitis and other STDs. There are two doctors, two nurses and one lab technician involved.
These staff regularly test the sex workers for HCV as well as other blood-borne viruses and sexually transmitted infections. The aim is to identify sex workers who are HCV-infected and mitigate transmission of the virus within this at-risk community.
